Week 1 Summary

Posted: August 29, 2012 in Art 170 Thoughts & Reviews

In this week’s lesson I learned about another web browser called Opera. It is the ideal browser for a number of devices such as cell phones and laptops. As I was reading I also became aware that Microsoft Word should never be used to edit or create pages. However, when it comes to naming files the correct way I am an expert at doing such because I like to keep it simple enough so that I know exactly what that file contains. While watching the lecture video I learned that “ HTTP” is an abbreviation for hypertext transfer protocol and “URL” is an abbreviation for uniform resource locator. In the article from http://www.ftpclient.com/faq/ I learned what a network protocol’s job is. I have always heard of network protocol but I never understood what it was. A network protocol is a mutual agreement that knows what to do to initiate an exchange and what it must do next. While reading the article, A Brief History of Markup, from the website http://www.alistapart.com/articles/a-brief-history-of-markup/ that just like English is the primary language of America, HTML is the primary language for the World Wide Web. From reading this article I also found it interesting that the HTML did not start at 1, but it started at 2.0.
